Over the past few hours, the NHL has made a controversial announcement regarding tonight's game between the Canadiens and Hurricanes.

It concerns the choice of referees.

"Former Carolina Hurricanes organization player Carter Sandlak gets the call tonight for the Hurricanes' game against the Canadiens in Montreal, alongside Wes McCauley. He'll be the referee for the game, with McCauley." - Scouting The Refs

This is a situation that was highlighted by TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie:

"The first professional club, the Canes, and tonight he's the referee against the Montreal Canadiens..." - Renaud Lavoie

This is an announcement that has generated a lot of reaction from fans and some members of the media, especially since it's almost unheard of in the NHL for an official to referee a game involving their former team.

Sandlak, 29, most recently played 54 games with the Carolina Hurricanes' AHL affiliate from 2014 to 2016. (He recorded 5 points and 74 penalty minutes.)

Do you think this is a disappointing decision by the NHL, or does it not bother you?
