He will be playing the last year of his contract in 2022-2023 and there is a good chance that the upcoming season will be his last in the tricolour uniform.
The optimists may say that if number 92 has a great season, Kent Hughes could get a good value when the trade deadline arrives. But the more realistic view is that Drouin may have already played his last game in Montreal. Among them is radio and TV host Jean-Charles Lajoie.
As reported by Médérick Lefebvre of Danslescoulisses.com, the latter discussed Jonathan Drouin with Tony Marinaro on BPM Sports and Lajoie made a rather surprising statement about the Canadiens' forward.
Admittedly, there is something to be said for this statement. Drouin is still under contract and Kent Hughes hasn't had time to evaluate him enough since his arrival, as Drouin only played 34 games last year.
That said, the Quebec forward has had his share of injuries over the past three seasons and a change of scenery could be good for him. However, Lajoie has added to that and let's just say that it's not encouraging for the rest of his career in the NHL.
The host made reference to the fact that his wrist might be too sore for him to handle in the upcoming season, but the fact remains that Drouin is still, at 27, a forward of some quality in the NHL and it's very likely that he could rebound this year.
It remains to be seen if he will be able to stay healthy and especially hope that the chemistry works between him and the team's new management.
