P.K. Subban is in spectacular form, he has worked hard during the summer to get back to his best. However, he is not an untouchable for the New Jersey Devils, as he could leave sooner rather than later.
That said, according to a reporter from Boston Hockey Now, the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs have contacted Tom Fitzgerald, the general manager of the New Jersey-based team. At 32 years old, Subban has begun his decline, he has slowed down the pace (offensively) a bit during the last three campaigns.
Then, if the Devils ever decide to let him go, they will certainly have to retain a good percentage (50%?) of the heavy average salary that P.K. Subban carries with him. We're talking about a $9 million cap hit, which is not attractive... However, the nice thing about this one is that he will be spending the last year of his current deal next season.
Subban could have a big campaign as he will play for a contract to continue his journey in this league. He will find a buyer, but he will have to take a considerable pay cut... unless he bounces back in a big way in 2021-22. Remember, he had the second best season of his career in 2017-18, with 59 points, including 16 goals. Though that may be THE best campaign of his.
In short, if he ever ends up with the Bruins or Maple Leafs, we'll have the chance to watch him more regularly since he'll be in the same division as the Montreal Canadiens.
