Today, we learned that the Montreal Canadiens had send 22-year-old forward Ryan Poehling to the Laval Rocket. He will not be in Montreal to start the season, which is a good decision.

The first pick of the Canadiens in 2017 had not had a good training camp. The principal concerned was obviously aware of this situation, even if he would have liked to do much more according to Dominique Ducharme.

Poehling simply wasn't ready to make the jump to the NHL yet. He still needs to refine his game in the minors and gain confidence as a hockey player.

The thing I remember most about this is that Poehling has maintained his good attitude through it all. He is not unhappy to be in Laval, even though he still has the goal of playing in the NHL on a regular basis one day, according to his captain Xavier Ouellet.

His attitude is obviously exemplary, which is a great quality in a player. His determination could open the doors to the NHL soon, should the Canadiens suffer any injuries. A recall during the season could be possible.

Ouellet has high hopes for Poehling, and so do I. Let's be patient, the Habs might have a nice little project on hand.

He formed a trio with Rafaël Harvey-Pinard and Jesse Ylonen this morning at practice, a very interesting combination formed by Jean-François Houle.
