The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals have shared a strong rivalry over the past few seasons. That rivalry came to the fore again on Saturday afternoon, thanks to Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

During this game, in the first period, the Capitals really got under the skin of the Penguins players and the frustration of the opponents was palpable. Especially for Pens captain Sidney Croby.

The latter let his frustration get the better of him at this point in the game when he got into an altercation with Capitals forward Nic Dowd. The altercation ended with Crosby taking a wild swing at his opponent's head.

The referees on the ice did see the gesture, but the penalty was overturned, as Washington scored on the same sequence.

It wasn't the hardest hit you've ever seen, but there's no doubt that it was a deliberate punch thrown at Dowd's head. It will be interesting to see if the NHL's disciplinary committee will crack down on Crosby...
