This is one of the big news of the day in the hockey world today, as we learned this noon that the Vegas Golden Knights will be without the services of their number one goalie, Robin Lehner, for the entire 2022-2023 season. His contract will join their long-term injury list, along with Shea Weber's.

Their GM, Kelly McCrimmon, is already in "solutions" mode and should definitely be expected to add a new goalie.

And he can afford to:

A few moments after this big announcement, the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin published this:

"Honestly, it makes sense to tie Jake Allen to the Golden Knights. Allen is worth only $2.875M on the block, so that would leave a little over $2M (of Lehner's LTIR $ balance) to sign a forward (Kessel?). It remains to be seen what happens with Price! #CH #Habs"

Could Jake Allen be traded to Las Vegas in the next few weeks? This would not be the first transaction between the CH and the Golden Knights in the preseason.

Many experts believe that Kent Hughes will take advantage of the situation to make Vegas overpay. It could be interesting! To be continued...

Allen, 32, is under contract until 2023 with an annual salary of $2.875 million, which is very attractive for a goalie of his caliber, especially considering Vegas' problems with the payroll.

In exchange, Montreal could receive quite a return for its 32-year-old goalie, who will be free as a bird next summer. Can we expect a first round pick, or a Knights prospect?

It will obviously depend on Carey Price.
