Last night, young defenseman Arber Xhekaj received quite a vote of confidence from his organization and head coach as he remained in the Habs lineup despite the return of Joel Edmundson.
Martin St-Louis preferred to have one "too many" left-handed players in his lineup, rather than bringing out a youngster like Xhekaj. We love it.
A surprise promotion
On top of that, yesterday, Xhekaj got a great promotion that very few people saw coming.
Arber Xhekaj is now effectively Chris Wideman's replacement on the Montreal Canadiens' power play. At least, if yesterday's game is any indication:
"Arber Xhekaj, NHL power play player. Who would have predicted that a few months ago?" - Arpon Basu
A meteoric rise that continues for Xhekaj. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound undrafted defenseman has three points this season. A few games ago, he was the top scorer among Canadiens defensemen.
He is averaging 15 minutes 30 seconds per game.
Do you think he will stay on the power play for much longer?
