The Canadiens are in the running to acquire Jakob Chychrun: the price is scary

Since last year, there have been numerous trade rumors surrounding Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun.

However, the Coyotes' asking price would be extremely high, even astronomical. We are probably talking about established players as well as first and second round draft picks, which would have put a stop to the impulse of some teams to acquire him.

The 24 year old defenseman is currently on the injured list, but he should be back in action very soon and as Shane Seney reports, there would be news in this file.

According to Darren Dreger of TSN, Chychrun could possibly be traded to five teams and those teams have one thing in common, they all play in Canada.

Five teams in the running?

There are most likely others, but we're talking about the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens. Yes, the Habs.

Look, there's a growing list of Canadian teams that are in the market for a defenseman - you know, Chychrun is high rent and the demand is huge, so we'll see if teams like Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton or Vancouver will come full circle and pay that price or they'll look elsewhere. But I can tell you that these are the teams that are in the market.

Wow! Still pretty amazing to hear that the Habs could be in the running for one of the best young defensemen in the NHL.

But before coming to a trade, the Coyotes organization would like to wait until Chychrun has played a dozen games to test his value on the trade market.

He still has three years left on his contract at an annual salary of only $4.6 million, which is why his value is very high right now. But we're talking about a defenseman who can play on the top pair of defenses on all 32 NHL teams.

Now it's time for the auction! It will be interesting to watch, because the trade involving Jakob Chychrun really seems to be a matter of "when" and not "if" he will be traded. At least that's the wish of both sides.
