In the last few seconds, the Montreal Canadiens announced that they had released goaltender Riley Mercer from his amateur trial.
A second goalie cut by the CH, in two days.
The brother of the New Jersey Devils' brilliant forward Dawson Mercer, Riley, was invited to the Habs' rookie camp, and then he made the jump to the regular camp.
He made a good impression.
Mercer, 18, has been with the Drummondville Voltigeurs for two years and in 29 games last year, the forward won nine games, maintained a .886 save percentage and a 3.62 goals against average.
He has never been drafted by an NHL team, but he seems to have intriguing potential.
