In the last few seconds and according to several very reliable sources, the National Hockey League has just communicated, to the 32 teams, guidelines for the famous salary cap.
These are projections, but they are extremely reliable projections that come directly from the NHL.
2022-23 salary cap: $82.5 million
2023-24 salary cap: $83.5 million
2024-25 salary cap: $87.5 to $88 million
2025-26 Salary Cap: Approximately $92 million
Wow, this is major for Kent Hughes and other NHL general managers plans and could be a complete game changer for many.
We're talking about a major increase here, nearly $6 million within two years and nearly TEN million within three years.
One of the NHL general managers who will be the happiest about this is obviously Kent Hughes, as this significant increase will coincide perfectly with the time when the CH will be in "compete and buy" mode.
It will be perfect for Hughes to be able to afford solid players on the free agent market. It will also be perfect for him to re-sign players like Juraj Slafkovsky and Kaiden Guhle, as their contracts end in 2025. We can also think about Cole Caufield's eventual contract extension, which will be much easier to plan now that the general manager has this information in hand.
It promises to be a great deal for the next few years!
