It was Nico Hischier who was finally drafted at the very first pick, by the New Jersey Devils, while Nolan Patrick had to settle for the second pick.
The 2017 draft was also the first in the history of the Vegas Golden Knights, with three first-round picks.
In the last few hours, the NHL's official page decided to redo the top-10 of that draft, the one in which Nick Suzuki was drafted 13th overall, and the results are now known.
With hindsight, we quickly realize that there are several surprises and changes within this top-10. In fact, from the original top-10, there are only four players that stand out (Nico Hischier, Miro Heiskanen, Cale Makar and Elias Pettersson).
That leaves names like Nolan Patrick (2nd), Cody Glass (6th), Lias Andersson (7th), Casey Mittelstadt (8th), Michael Rasmussen (9th) and Owen Tippett (10th), who are slow to make their mark in the NHL.
Finally, here's the new NHL.com top-10:
Let's note here several nice surprises, like Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman, who goes from 111th to 8th.
Nick Suzuki goes from 13th to 7th, again according to NHL.com, while Nick Hischier goes from 1st to 9th.
Let's also note here the remarkable performance of the Dallas Stars, who probably drafted their three franchise players in Miro Heiskanen, Jake Oettinger and Jason Robertson, three names that are now in the "new" top-6. Solid!
