Among the teams that have disappointed this season in the NHL is the Winnipeg Jets. After four consecutive years in the playoffs, the Manitoba team will be left out this year, despite the presence of several quality players.

As my colleague Christian Matte of Marqueur.com reports, expect some changes this summer in Winnipeg.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Jets could be tempted to trade forward Pierre-Luc Dubois if he can't come to terms with the team on a new contract. He could even go to arbitration, as he will be an independent player with compensation this summer.

The problem is that Dubois could become an uncompensated free agent within the next two years and losing such a talented young forward without getting anything in return is certainly not ideal, especially for an organization like the Jets who are struggling to attract free agents in Manitoba.

Could the Habs be tempted to acquire him?

We already know that in the past, former general manager Marc Bergevin tried to acquire Dubois but the price was too high at the time. We don't know if Kent Hughes has any interest in the forward who will be 24 years old next June.

This season, Dubois has 58 points, including 27 goals, in 78 games and has just completed his fifth NHL season. He had been the third overall pick in the 2016 draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, behind Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine. By the way, Laine was involved in the transaction that brought Dubois to Winnipeg in January 2021.
