While the Canadiens' GM has been very quiet since the opening of the free agent market, despite trying his luck with names like Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Patrick Kane, Hughes has only signed the promising Alex Barré-Boulet so far.
However, another name that keeps being linked to the Canadiens is Quebecois Sammy Blais.
After the departures of veterans like Tanner Pearson and Colin White, the Canadiens could really benefit from a young veteran on the 3rd or 4th line.
We're talking about a true "bottom-6" specialist, a player who would be perfect in his role, and a player who wouldn't take the place of Ivan Demidov and others.
Samuel Blais, who has been slowed by injuries in recent years, could be an ideal (and very affordable) acquisition for the Montreal Canadiens in the free agent market.
The Quebecois is now a free agent.
Blais, 28 years old, 6 feet 2 inches, and 206 pounds, is a very physical player and surprisingly good offensively.
He recorded 20 points in 31 games with the St. Louis Blues in 2022-23.
In his NHL career, he has 27 goals and 44 assists (71 points) in 257 games.
He is also a Stanley Cup champion and played a significant role during his team's playoff run in 2019.
For less than $1.5 million per year, would you like the Montreal Canadiens to sign Sammy Blais for the 4th line?
Especially knowing that Rafaël Harvey-Pinard has unfortunately just been injured, this could be a solid depth acquisition.
