In a press conference for the Stanley Cup Final, Commissioner Gary Bettman responded to questions about expansion and the Quebec Nordiques.

He first answered the question more generally during the press conference and then was specifically asked about Quebec in an interview with TVA Sports.

Gary Bettman Closes the Door on Short-Term Expansion

See the brief report from RDS journalist Patrick Friolet.

«No expansion plans for the NHL at the moment, according to Gary Bettman. Status quo for now at 32 teams.

We are, however, listening to the interest of half a dozen markets.»

- Patrick Friolet

He mentions six cities that have shown interest in an NHL expansion team. It is assumed Bettman is referring to Quebec, Atlanta, Houston, Kansas City, and Arizona, along with another unknown market.

Unfortunately, as reported by TVA Sports,
Gary Bettman doesn't want to talk about Quebec.

«Gary Bettman clearly did not want to discuss the possibility of a team returning to Quebec City on Saturday night.

In an interview with Félix Séguin before the first game of the Stanley Cup Final, the NHL's head honcho gave very brief responses about the Nordiques.

No news [on that topic],' he simply replied.» - TVA Sports

That settles the matter, at least in the short term, and it is always disappointing to hear Gary Bettman talk about Quebec.

Details to follow.
