In the last few minutes, we learned some interesting news regarding goaltenders Samuel Montembeault and Devon Levi.
We already knew about Sam, but the official announcement has been made!
He will officially represent Canada at the upcoming World Hockey Championship.
"Samuel Montembeault will participate in the World Championship. He will likely be the number one goaltender for Team Canada.»
- Via Steve Turcotte, of Nouvelliste
He will be our number one goaltender!
That's not all, we now know the identity of his backup.
«Devon Levi will also play for Canada at the World Championships after finishing his classes at Northeastern.» - Lance Lysowski
Levi will indeed be the backup goaltender to Montembeault, which means that both goaltenders on the Canadian team will be Quebecers!
«Samuel Montembeault and Devon Levi will be the two goaltenders for Canada.»
It should be noted that we are talking about two goaltenders who could have formed the duo for the Montreal Canadiens next season. Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton reportedly made serious attempts to acquire Levi from the Buffalo Sabres, but so far, to no avaible.
There were even concrete discussions:
In short, Levi and Montembeault will form a duo for Canada in May, and it would make a solid duo for the Montreal Canadiens next season. Anyway, we can dream about it, and it will be a great preview in a few weeks.
