The Jakob Chychrun sweepstakes have been going for nearly two years now, but all signs indicate it will finally come to its breaking point within the next week.
With Arizona ready to move on, and the deadline being just over six days away, something is ought to happen this week.
Per NHL Insider Shawn Simpson, the frontrunner to acquire Chychrun is the Ottawa Senators.
Senators to Push for Chychrun
The Senators have shown that they aren't afraid to go after a big name player. They traded big assets for Alex DeBrincat this past draft, and they could reportedly be looking at doing it again.
On paper it makes a lot of sense, as they'll likely hold a top-10 pick which is worth much more than the late firsts Arizona would be getting from a contender.
It would equally put Ottawa in a position to contend for the playoffs next season, which will be great for whichever new ownership group finds themselves at the helm of the team.
It will be incredibly interesting to see if the Senators can pull this off. If they can, it'll be another year without playoff success for Chychrun, but a massive step in the future of the Ottawa Senators.
