We just learned what Kent Hughes wanted for Joel Edmundson
As you know, after being involved in many trade rumors, defenseman Joel Edmundson is still a player with the Canadiens today.
There are several reasons for this, including his precarious health condition, but above all, it is important to know that Kent Hughes did not want to trade him "at all costs".
From what we understand, he was open to trading him, but only at the right price.
What price for Edmundson?
See what journalist François Gagnon of RDS mentioned on this subject:
"I don't know where you read that. The Canadiens wanted a first-round pick in the case of Joel Edmundson, but it seemed very difficult to obtain in this year's market."
We love it. Edmundson is very useful for the young players and for the rebuilding process, in addition to being a reliable defenseman.
Trading him for a second or third-round pick would probably not have been beneficial for the Montreal Canadiens.
Kent Hughes was asking for a first-round pick in exchange for Edmundson, and that's perfectly fine. If other teams were offering less (due to his injury), Hughes did well not to trade him.
In the meantime, we wish "Eddy" a strong finish to the season and, above all, good health.
Edmundson, 29 years old, has 6 points in 41 games this season. He earns $3.5 million until 2024.
