We have just learned that the Philadelphia Flyers submitted a major trade offer that could have changed everything for Kent Hughes and the Canadiens.
Now that the famous 2024 NHL Draft is a few days behind us, some juicy information is starting to emerge, particularly related to serious trade discussions that took place on the floor in Las Vegas.
Daniel Brière and the Flyers Attempted a Home Run with Ivan Demidov in Front of Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens
Philadelphia indeed attempted a major trade to acquire Ivan Demidov.
«They would have offered their own first pick (12th overall) as well as their first pick next season, in addition to a player from their current roster.»
- Samuel Doiron
This is reported by journalist Mark Scheig:
«To the Flyers: 4th overall pick.
To the Blue Jackets: 12th overall pick (which became Zeev Buium), a roster player, and a 2025 first-round pick.
Note: The Flyers have two first-round picks in 2025.»
- Mark Scheig
As later confirmed by Pierre LeBrun, the Flyers' plan was to draft Ivan Demidov and pair him with Matvei Michkov.
Fortunately for the Habs, we now know what happened next.
The offer was rejected, and Demidov is now a member of the Montreal Canadiens.
Today, I am convinced that he is an absolutely untouchable player for Kent Hughes and that he will be a major part of the organization's future.
We are so happy to see that the plan worked and that Demidov is now a Montreal Canadien!
