Alex Ovechkin is quite a phenomenon. To manage to score 800 goals in the NHL, in these times of peak goaltending, is quite a feat. That's not even counting the fact that he did it all while going through two lock-outs while never having suffered a major injury.
The reason for his success? The Coca-Cola!
Well, that's not the only reason, but there's a rumor that Ovie drinks Coca-Cola during games and that it's one of the secret recipes for the striker's success.
ESPN's Emily Kaplan recently explored this aspect and now we know a little more. It is not Coca-Cola but Pepsi that Ovechkin asks to have in his special bottle. He drinks this drink only during the first period of the games. During the breaks, he drinks another soft drink, Dr. Pepper.
Athletes are people of habit. We also know that Ovi always eats the same pre-game meal, Italian food from the same restaurant. He also has a funny pre-game routine with T.J. Oshie that motivates him to great effect.
No matter what he does, he mustn't change his routine because it seems to work! To date, the famous number 8 has accumulated 800 goals, 646 assists for a total of 1446 points in 1308 regular season games.
