As the Habs' official training camp gets underway next week, the organization is still actively looking for players who can help the team as quickly as possible.

As we know, there is congestion in the forward line, so it is likely that Kent Hughes will make a trade at any time, especially to try to improve his defensive squad.

As reported by my colleagues at Fanadiens.com, it could very well be that a former Jeff Gorton draft pick could be of interest to the Habs.

Swedish Rangers defenseman Nils Lundkvist is the talk of New York, as he reportedly refused to report to the team's training camp.

According to his agent Claude Lemieux, Lundkvist's family has asked the Rangers for a trade and the 22 year old defenseman should not join the team until a trade is completed.

Lundkvist was a first-round pick of the Rangers in 2018 back when Jeff Gorton was the team's general manager. Since he is a right-handed defenseman, he would be a perfect fit for the Habs' defense.

With the departure of Jeff Petry this summer, the right side of the Habs' defense is somewhat of a weak spot on the team, and adding a talented back like Lundkvist would certainly fill a gap and take some pressure off Justin Barron.

On the other hand, the fact that the young Swedish defenseman didn't show up for the Rangers' camp says a lot about his attitude, but the fact remains that he has a lot of talent. It remains to be seen how interested Kent Hughes could be in Lundkvist and, since Jeff Gorton knows him very well, maybe the young defenseman's clan would be interested in negotiating with the Habs.
