Without the services of Carey Price since the beginning of the season, Jake Allen is now out for the rest of the season with a groin injury.
Despite this, it has allowed Samuel Montembeault to establish himself as an NHL goaltender and despite some tough starts, he has looked good under the circumstances.
During the The Rack at Becyk segment on 91.9 Sports, hosts Stephane Gonzalez and Kevin Vallée discussed the goaltending situation with the Habs and how Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will need to approach next season.
According to Vallée, Jake Allen may well have played his last game with the Habs and he envisions a Price-Montembeault tandem for next year. He also said that the Habs organization must take advantage of the window of opportunity to trade Allen if they want to get something substantial in return.
At 31 years old, he still has value throughout the NHL and Gonzalez mentioned that Kent Hughes should offer Montembeault a contract, as he feels that young Cayden Primeau may not be ready for a regular position with the Habs yet.
