Since then, Dach has gone a bit under the radar, because all eyes are on another big center.
Pierre-Luc Dubois really seems destined to become a Habs player within the next two years. However, some fans and observers would not be so patient and would not take any chances.
There is an intriguing hypothesis that is circulating in this sense.
Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now brought up this hypothesis, which is getting quite a bit of reaction. We know that the CH is in big negotiations, currently, with the Winnipeg Jets.
That's a fact.
We also have strong reasons to believe that there is a specific reason why this is not happening:
Kent Hughes won't trade Nick Suzuki, it just won't happen.
However, if the Jets GM insists on asking for a young promising center in exchange for Dubois, Kent Hughes now has a new option.
Marco D'Amico is talking about the possibility that Kirby Dach could be used to convince the Jets to give Dubois to the CH immediately.
Personally, if I were Kent Hughes, I would absolutely not do it. I would wait two years and sign Dubois "for free" in 2024.
I want to field the following center line and keep it intact:
Suzuki
Dubois
Dach
Remember, this is just a guess from Montreal Hockey Now. In any case, it seems inevitable that Dubois will end up in Montreal, even if it's only a matter of time.
Why sacrifice a young 6-foot-4 center in order to speed up the process?
What would you do if you were in Kent Hughes' shoes? Try to get Dubois immediately? With what offer?
The other option is to wait two years and that is clearly our favorite.
If we exclude Kirby Dach, we finally have an idea of the offer Kent Hughes should make to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois.
We like this one a lot more!
