As if Wright's selection in the last draft wasn't enough of a talking point, here's a new piece of information that may cause a reaction. In a conversation with BPM Sports, journalist Mathias Brunet revealed that the Montreal Canadiens did not even have #51 in their final top two.
The Habs were interested in a center if they didn't pick Slafkovsky, but it wasn't Shane Wright or Logan Cooley who would have been chosen first. Against all odds, the journalist informs us that it was Noah Ostlund who was in the CH's sights.
This information may seem surprising since the Habs had indicated that the club was hesitating between Slafkovsky, Cooley and Wright. In the end, Montreal selected the Slovakian player while Cooley was preferred to Wright by the Coyotes with the third overall pick. Wright was only drafted fourth overall by the Seattle Kraken.
Wright's reaction to this was extremely reactionary, as he reportedly glared at the Habs table when selected by Seattle. The irony continued when the center scored his first career goal against Montreal on December 6.
It would be interesting to see Shane Wright's reaction if he were to get his hands on this new information shared by Mathias Brunet.
