According to reports from the reputable Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the New York Rangers are currently actively trying to trade their promising young defenseman Nils Lundkvist.

Lundkvist, 22, is a former first-round pick (28th overall) of the Rangers in 2018 and was selected by one Jeff Gorton, who is now with the Habs.

Plus, he's a right-handed defenseman who is bursting with potential, has great offensive skills, but wants an NHL job.

That's why the Rangers want to trade Lundkvist. His agent has informed Rangers officials that he is unlikely to show up at camp without a contract.

In 34 games last season with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League, the Swede had 15 points, including three goals. He also added four points in 25 games with the Rangers.

Could Jeff Gorton go after his former colt? To be continued, but it would make sense (especially considering the fact that he is a right-handed back)!

One thing is for sure, many fans and observers are already linking Lundkvist's name to the Montreal Canadiens, and it really seems like a possible acquisition.

Let's remember the highlights:

- Lundkvist is a young, right-handed, offensive defenseman with a lot of promise (exactly what Kent Hughes is looking for)

- He has requested a trade and the Rangers are actively trying to find a new team for him (he will almost certainly be traded soon)

- The Habs have already tried to acquire him

- He is a first round pick of Jeff Gorton

So there do seem to be several elements in place to make us believe that this is possible, but let's wait and see.

In exchange, the Rangers would like a CH forward. Details here:
