With the trade deadline fast approaching, many are hoping that Kent Hughes can trade Evgenii Dadonov and Mike Hoffman to another team. The recent performances of the two players have given new life to this dream as the veterans are currently experiencing very good times with the CH.
This will impress the other NHL GMs?
As Guy Boucher says, it's not really the case.
While appearing on On Jase on RDS, the former NHL head coach is adamant that the two players' recent successes won't change anything.
"No, it has no influence! They've been in the league too long. They've been in the league too long. They've been in every game, so it's not a game or two or three or four that make them better all of a sudden. The scouts know that they are pushing because they want to get out of their environment to go to a winning team. [...] These guys are not transformed tomorrow morning. Mike Hoffman is Mike Hoffman and he's the Mike Hoffman of this year, last year and the year before. Dadonov is the same thing. They have their strengths and weaknesses. No matter what happens between now and the trade period, it's already in the plans or not in the plans of the managers to trade for them." - Guy Boucher
Indeed, the scouts and DGs are not fooled. They know very well the different players in the league and it is not a nice sequence that will change the game. Why acquire a player who plays well only when he wants to leave the ship of a formation?
So we understand that it would be a miracle if Kent Hughes managed to pass on either of these two players by March 3rd. Especially Hoffman who still has another year of contract at $4.5M on the payroll. It is therefore very likely that we will have to endure his moments of cowardice for another season in the blue-white-red uniform...
