Since the departure of Sea Weber, the issue of the next captain of the Habs has been the subject of much discussion and some experts do not agree on who will be the next Habs player to wear the C on his jersey.
Will it be Nick Suzuki, Joel Edmundson or Brendan Gallagher?
Let's just say that these three names are the ones that stand out the most and unless there is a surprise, we will have a captain for the Habs in 2022-2023.
If some people believe that it is the players who should vote (as Serge Savard clearly mentioned), others believe that the final decision should be made by the Habs organization.
And on this subject, as reported by Charles-Alexis Brisebois of Danslescoulisses.com, a player from the current edition of the Habs has spoken out on how the Habs should proceed in naming the next captain.
During his appearance on 98.5, Jonathan Drouin told Mario Langlois that it is the team's management that should choose the new captain of the Habs.
"We're no longer in pee-wee, bantam where everyone puts their vote for the captain. The organization is going to pick the right captain." -Jonathan Drouin
"It's not for us to decide who should be captain. That's inside the locker room. It's always been that way." -Serge Savard
The number 92 is confident that the organization will be able to choose the right person for this prestigious title and he has his own idea on that. According to him, Nick Suzuki is ready to take on the role, even if it brings additional pressure, but he sees him very well being the next captain of the team.
"There's definitely going to be a little more pressure than usual. I don't know if you want to put that on him.
But I think if there's anyone who's ready in this young group, it's him."
